A 20-minute drive, a different kind of yard

The Villages is about a 20-minute drive from our home base in Weirsdale, and it's a different kind of job than what we run into on acreage further out. Lots here are smaller and closer together, and most of them were landscaped around one or two mature live oaks or a cluster of queen and sabal palms that were already established when the house went in. Those trees are usually healthy — they're just tight against a driveway, a lanai, or a neighbor's fence line, so there's not a lot of room for error when we're working.

Because so many communities here have deed restrictions or HOA landscaping standards, we plan the job around that from the start: careful staging so we're not blocking a cart path, low-impact rigging so nothing swings toward a screened enclosure, and a clean site when we leave. Most of our Villages calls come in ahead of hurricane season, when residents want a canopy checked and thinned before June, or after a bad wind event when a palm frond or oak limb needs to come down before it becomes someone's insurance claim.

Common questions

The Villages FAQ

How often do palms in The Villages need to be trimmed?

Most queen and sabal palms around The Villages do fine on an annual trim, mainly cleaning out dead fronds and old seed pods. We don't over-strip a palm — pulling green fronds to make it look "tidy" actually weakens it. If your HOA has a specific frond-count or hurricane-cut standard, tell us and we'll match it.

Will you leave the site HOA-clean when you're done?

Yes. We blow off driveways and walks, haul or chip debris, and do a final walk before we leave. Most Villages communities have tidy-site expectations and we plan for that going in, not as an afterthought.

Can you work around golf-cart paths and lanais?

Yes. We stage equipment to keep cart paths clear whenever possible and use low-impact rigging near lanais, screened enclosures, and tight side yards so nothing swings into a structure.
